Soft Vanilla Pastry for Cozy Mornings

Baking vanilla pastries in the morning made the house feel calmer and more welcoming. This recipe yields a light, tender breakfast with comforting vanilla flavor.

Ingredients
  

For the Vanilla Cream

  • 1 sheet Puff pastry
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 3 tbsp Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Cornstarch
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract

For Serving

  • As needed Powdered sugar For dusting

Instructions
 

  • In a saucepan, whisk together the milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and cornstarch.
  • Cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it becomes thick.
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat and whisk in the egg quickly.
  • Cut the puff pastry sheet into squares of your desired size.
  • Spoon the vanilla cream mixture into the center of each pastry square and fold the pastry over to enclose the filling.
  • Bake the pastries on a baking sheet at 400°F (200°C) for 18 to 20 minutes.
  • Dust the warm pastries with powdered sugar before you serve them.

Notes

This pastry pairs well with coffee or tea for a slow morning.
