Heart-Shaped Chocolate Sugar Cookies

Make these chocolate sugar cookies shaped like hearts for Valentine's Day. The dough holds its shape well, which simplifies decorating.

Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • Mix the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt together in a bowl.
  • In a separate bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract to the creamed mixture and mix until combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  • Wrap the dough and chill it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out the chilled dough and cut out heart shapes.
  • Place the cutouts on baking sheets and bake for 10 to 12 minutes.
  • Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool completely before decorating.

Notes

This chocolate dough maintains its shape well during baking, which makes the decorating process simpler.
