Comfort Breakfast Made with Apples

Apples cooking in the morning always filled the kitchen with a smell that felt instantly comforting and familiar.

Ingredients
  

For the Apples

  • 3 medium apples peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

For Serving

  • 4 slices thick bread sourdough or brioche recommended
  • 4 tbsp cream cheese softened

Instructions
 

  • Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced apples to the skillet.
  • Sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon over the apples. Cook for 10 to 12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender and the sugar has formed a light syrup.
  • While the apples cook, toast or grill your bread slices until golden brown.
  • Spread 1 tablespoon of softened cream cheese evenly over each slice of toast.
  • Top the cream cheese with the warm, spiced apples and syrup. Serve immediately.
