Classic Heart-Shaped Sugar Cookies

Ingredients
  

Sugar Cookie Dough

  • 2.75 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1.5 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • Whisk the flour, baking powder, and salt together in a bowl.
  • Cream the softened butter and sugar using an electric mixer until the mixture is fluffy.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix until combined.
  • Mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined to form the dough.
  • Wrap the dough and chill it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  • Roll the chilled dough out on a lightly floured surface.
  • Use a heart-shaped cutter to cut out the cookies.
  • Bake the cookies on baking sheets at 350°F (175°C) for 9 to 11 minutes.
  • Let the cookies cool completely before you decorate them or serve them.

Notes

This recipe is for the cookie base only. You can use your favorite royal icing or simple glaze for decorating these Valentine's Day treats.
