These chocolate glazed donuts are soft, fluffy, and coated in a rich, glossy chocolate glaze. Perfect for breakfast, a coffee break, or a homemade dessert!

Ingredients

For the Donuts

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
½ cup sugar
1 packet 2 ¼ tsp instant yeast
½ tsp salt
½ cup warm milk
2 tbsp melted butter
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
Oil for frying if frying

For the Chocolate Glaze

1 cup powdered sugar
¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
50g melted dark chocolate optional for a richer glaze

Instructions

1 Prepare the Dough
In a bowl mix the warm milk yeast and sugar Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy
Add flour salt melted butter egg and vanilla Mix until combined then knead for about 5 to 7 minutes until smooth
Cover and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size

2 Shape the Donuts
Roll out the dough to about ½-inch thick
Use a donut cutter or a glass and a small bottle cap to cut out donut shapes
Place the donuts on a baking sheet and let them rise for another 30 minutes

3 Cook the Donuts
For frying Heat oil to 350°F 175°C Fry each donut for about 1 to 2 minutes per side until golden brown Drain on paper towels
For baking Preheat oven to 375°F 190°C and bake for 10 to 12 minutes

4 Make the Chocolate Glaze
In a bowl whisk together powdered sugar cocoa powder milk and vanilla until smooth
If using melted chocolate stir it in for a richer glaze

5 Glaze the Donuts
Dip each donut into the glaze while still warm Let excess drip off then place on a wire rack to set

Notes

For a healthier version bake the donuts instead of frying
You can use almond milk or coconut milk for a dairy-free glaze
Store leftover donuts in an airtight container for up to 2 days
